Well, thanks to divine assistance, I passed my music civilization test!! That was such a rediculously hard test. The grades I heard before taking it myself were, a 79 (that was the highest), another C, 68, 63, 60, and 57. Not very comforting. So I was pretty excited to get a 73. I think that's the first time I've been so relieved and excited about such a bad grade. lol, but everyone did terrible. Our teacher takes the top 3% and moves them up to a 100 and all others follow behind that. Hopefully no one got an A or a B.

My Music Theory teacher, Mr. Boren, made me feel a lot better in class on Friday. He told us that his first year in Music Theory at BYU was terrible. He said he failed his first 3 tests (I've gotten B's on mine). He told us that it's crazy how we all feel coming here. We're all amazing at our individual instruments, but then we come here and find out that academically we know nothing concerning music. As Robert says, the one thing he loves and is the best at, he comes here and suddenly feels terrible at. Mr. Boren said that the music majors are some of the smartest students at BYU, and so they raise the bar and push us as hard as possible to get us to progress even more, even faster. He said that the one major that's harder is Audiology. So ya. Glad to know that I'm not the only one that feels so overwhelmed at this whole music major thing, and it's nice to know that we're not all dumb. lol.

Last week was another busy, hard week with more midterms, more opera, and such, but it was much better than the previous week. This week will be nice. I do have a music theory test monday, a dictation test tuesday, and I'm playing two of my peices in masterclass tuesday, but my sight singing class is cancelled thursday, and my family class is cancelled tuesday and thursday. It should be a much easier week. Well, I need to finish getting ready for church and go eat something. Hope everyone has a wonderful week! (maybe with this extra time, I'll get to update during the week!) Love y'all!

Kathy told me that the 1st semester of the music program is the hardest there is. It is designed (especially the Music Theory class) to weed people out. So good for you for sticking with it and working so hard! And know that it will be worth it - even if you decide not to stick with it long term, at least you didn't quit because it was too hard.

Wow, you are really learning a great lesson on endurance!! :) Think of all the prepartation and lessons you are learning for your life after college. Keep up the good work, and don't forget to have joy in the journey! :)
